The effect of Rumen Proof CF on methane emission and digestibility

To reduce emissions from the dairy sector, feed supplements can be of great importance. The assumption is that if a supplementary feed improves rumen digestibility, it improves feed efficiency, which could result in lower methane emissions.

Rumen Proof CF has been developed using a new technology by Mayo Healthcare in collaboration with the University of Ireland. The technology produces Long Acting Reactive Species (LARS) that may have a positive effect on the rumen of cows. The effect of the product on methane emission and digestibility is being investigated in a feed trial at Dairy Campus.

Research questions

  1. What is the effect of Rumen Proof CF on the methane emission of dairy cattle?

  2. What is the effect of Rumen Proof CF on the (fat-protein corrected) milk yield?

  3. What is the effect of Rumen Proof CF on the NDF digestibility* of dairy cattle?
*NDF digestibility (in %) indicates the percentage of the cell wall that has been digested.
