The effect of Rumen Proof CF on methane emission and digestibility

In order to reduce methane emission of the dairy sector, feed supplements can be of great interest. The hypothesis is that if a feed supplement is improving the digestibility in the rumen, this will improve feed ifficiency, which might result in lower methane emission.

Rumen Proof CF is a novel platform technology, developed by Mayo Healthcare in collaboration with the National University of Ireland. It consists of Long Acting Reactive Species (LARS), which might have beneficial effects on the rumen of cattle. The effect of the procut on methane emission and digestibility is studied in a feed trial at Dairy Campus.

Research questions

  1. What is the effect of Rumen Proof CF on the methane emission of dairy cattle?
  2. What is the effect of Rumen Proof CF on the (fat-protein corrected) milk yield?
  3. What is the effect of Rumen Proof CF on the whole tract NDF digestibility of dairy cattle?

*NDF digestibility ratio indicates what percentage of the cell wall is digested.
